a/n: Something for our resident pack bitches. Begins during New Moon by the way and ends later on in Post-Eclipse (there's no Breaking Dawn). Also anything past tense is just that; it happened before anything in present tense. Another thing to keep in mind is that some of it isn't in order.

Paul opens the door quietly, making sure not to open it wide enough to creak. He smiles at the sight of Jacob washing dishes in the kitchen, long black hair tied in its usual ponytail. The smile dims at the awful, worn t-shirt that Jacob has had since he was thirteen.

Jacob's hair is a stark contrast to the bright yellow and the large red paint splotch on the place where he supposes the other boy's hip is. A rip shows the skin of his arm where he'd torn it on a nail trying to help Billy fix the roof.

He's behind him, hands out in front of him to prepare for the attack. A battle cry tears from his throat and he pounces onto Jacob's back, arms wrapping around his neck.

He sputters when Jacob places his thumb under the faucet and gives him a face full of water.

It's cold.

He stares at Jacob, who's sitting across from him staring into the cup of coffee in his hands. Steam curls and disappears into the air as Paul opens his mouth to speak, closes it, and purses his lips in an angry line. Anger flashes white-hot as he catches glimpses of long brown hair, pretty broken eyes, and a bell-like voice laughing at a joke he'd told.

"Why don't you just run to her?"

It pains him even more to know that Jacob would.
